Driving Phobia GONE!

My SEVERE driving phobia came on, out of the blue, just over 2 years ago (after driving fine for many years). Bridges, overpasses, elevated areas, and sharp curves caused me the most problems. After the first few months of trying without any success I just gave up. I lost all my freedom and felt completely worthless and useless. After two years of feeling like a prisoner in my own home I decided enough was enough and started searching for help. I sure wasted a whole LOT of time and money along the way but I finally landed here on this book. Hope whoever is reading this review has found it early in your search because this it's really all you need if you have a strong will to succeed.
I couldn't drive anywhere really. The horrific and paralyzing fear was just too great. I purchased this book two months ago and started practicing immediately after hurriedly (but thoroughly) reading it all the way through and following his suggestions to the letter. Now here I am, two months later, about to take off on a 500 mile trip to see my daughter and I’m completely calm and confident.
YOU CAN DO THIS!! It will NOT be easy, no, not at all but please KNOW you can! When that day of freedom finally comes you will be beyond glad, you will be and feel many wonderful things.
Important Note: I temporarily developed generalized anxiety while practicing as my nerves were raw. Not realizing what was going on I thought something horrible must be wrong with me and I nearly quit shortly after I started. I later learned about being extremely sensitized, that it was normal in the first few weeks, and that it would pass. I really didn’t believe it would pass but it did. I used the techniques from Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Claire Weekes to get through the generalized anxiety while practicing to overcome the driving phobia. I highly recommend you have it in your arsenal before starting out on your road to recovery and freedom. It’s very old school. You just have to chuckle and look past that. She did mention using medication but you don’t need it. If you’re like me, you think you need it, you think it’s the only answer, but it’s not and it would be another thing you would have to work through later so why do that to yourself. So thankful I didn’t.

My first recommendation to anyone suffering with panic disorder/attacks/anxiety

This book single-handedly got me on my road to recovering from Panic disorder (Couldn't leave the house, couldn't be alone, couldn't drive alone, especially highways or far from home, etc.)
As a man, you feel castrated when hit with Panic disorder. All the things you used to do, used to love to do, and still want to do (like going for a hike, camping, taking a day-drive to the beach, driving to the country, even going to the store!) felt impossible for me. It was extremely saddening and depressing. Then, I got this book.
This book helped me just as much as therapy did. I only wanted to take medicine/anti-depressants as a last resort; and I never had to.
I can now drive on my own no problem and simply function! I don't wake up every day being reminded what I can't do. I haven't flown alone yet since this happened, but the idea doesn't scare me nearly as much as when I started. I am completely over "being alone", can drive with zero problem, even far from home, take elevators (with other people... I just hate those things ha), and feel virtually "cured." "Cure" is a bad word for anxiety sufferers, but I'll just say, I trust myself to handle panic attacks in the future. I can get through them, I always have. Future me is always ready for them.
Watching the authors videos on his website helped put a face to the words in the book, which as the other reviewers noted feels like he's sitting right next to you. I was literally saying "holy crap" every other page in this book at how exact he was describing what I was going through.
Combine this book with therapy, just so you have some accountability on what thoughts you're internalizing without realizing it, EXERCISE, and taking some vitamins, and you will be very surprised.

Simply life-changing...THANK YOU to the author!!!!!

I have never written a review for Amazon, though I have been a customer for years. This book has made me break my silence. It has transformed my life, seemingly overnight. I began having panic attacks about 3 months ago and they had reached the point of becoming debilitating. I was avoiding elevators, planes, crowds, even the grocery store. My husband wanted to take me on a (flying) trip to NYC, and I thought I would pass out at the thought of it. I sought a counselor specializing in panic disorder, and she felt sure that I could "self treat" my panic. So I sought out this book. I had barely finished this book when our NYC trip was upon us. The night before the trip I nearly backed out. The anticipatory anxiety was a nightmare. But I put full faith in the principles of this book, barely slept, and rose to get ready for our 6 am flight. I could not eat, I could barely talk, I was so anxious...until the plane took off. Then it was gone. It was like a miracle. I am still in shock at how simple it is to face down a Goliath like panic disorder and win. The trip to NYC, full of elevators, subway rides, and crowds, was actually...yes, FUN! I felt like a new woman, empowered to take back my life. Now when an airplane flies over, instead of saying to myself," I'm glad I'm not on that", I smile, and say to myself," Wow, I wonder what adventure they're off to?!". GET GET GET this book if you have ANY issue with panic attacks, claustrophobia, flying, public speaking, etc. It has been the best money I have ever spent on Amazon, hands down.
