About the Author
Jeff Keljik is a graduate of Dunwoody College of Technology and holds a Bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University. He previously served as head of the electrical department at Dunwoody College of Technology and played an integral part in developing their Electrical Design and Management program. The recipient of both the 1993 Kraemer Fellowship Award for new technology education and an award for International Technical Teacher Education, Mr. Keljik also holds a Master Class A license and a Journeyman's Class A license, both from the State of Minnesota. He is an Executive Board Member for the North Central Electrical League and serves on the Education Committee for the Minnesota Electrical Association.

Good book!

Giving this book a 1 star seems suspicious to me, probably a competitor. I actually own this book as it was a requirement for my motors class while I went through my ELEC program at (then) Dunwoody Institute of Technology in Minneapolis. (Now Dunwoody College) The book covers single phase and three phase motors, special motors, controls, relays, timers, DC motors, power distribution (transformers) and motor maintenance. The book was published in 1995 so one must take into consideration that some of the information may be a little history lesson being DC motors are used less and VFD's and PLC control are used much more in industry today than when I took the course. The book would still be of good use for a basic motors class.

A beautiful book!

I picked up this book to help me with ideas on romantic places and things to do in Paris, as I was making my first trip there with my husband. I fell in love with this book. The author is Sorbonne educated, Tirza Vallois, who has lived 40 years in the city of lights. It is obvious that she loves her city and is happy to help lovers and those who love romance to see her city at it's best. This is not the book to choose solely for the sites to see-for that I would suggest the DK Eyewitness guide for Paris, however, this guide will take you to some popular sites, and many that are off the beaten track that are quiet and romantic that allow you to fully appreciate the city.

We read her descriptions of the time of year to go, and chose October, which, as she states is a wonderful time to go....leaves turning and falling, crowds have thinned out, restaurants are not so smoky and crowded. We took her advise and got transportation from the airport, which allowed us the luxury of watching the city go by instead of carting our bags up and down the metro station stairs, and getting to our hotel exhausted. We read about the Musee Rodin and sculpture garden, which is an 18th century mansion, surrounded by a rose garden with over 200 varieties of roses and the sculptures of Rodin, including the Kiss and the Thinker. Perfect for a hand in hand stroll with your favorite someone. We walked the Seine as the lights of the city came on, we read about the love story of Abelard & Heloise, and visited their gravesite in Pere Lachaise Cemetery, which is both a beautiful park and has some of the most beautiful stained glass and sculptures I have seen in a cemetery. We also read about and visited the gravesite of Alphonsine Plessis, better known as "Camille" in the novel by Alexander Dumas, fils. We had a romantic tea at Mariage Freres, and bought rose tea and some other blends to bring home to remind us of our special afternoon.

Ms. Vallois's guide is beautifully layed out. The pictures are stunning and I read the book cover to cover before leaving on my trip making sure that I had noted sites that she suggested or areas that we wanted to make sure to see. The guide is down to earth, it is not pretentious or fussy. She does not equate romance and sensual pleasures with spending a lot of money. Of course for those who want a more luxurious experience, she does note higher end hotels and restaurants along with the sites for the more budget conscious.

One recommendation that I would make is to go on the dinner cruise on the Seine. We chose Bateaux Parisian and it was romance at it's peak. We will never forget the sites, the sounds and wonderful food and wine. Pricey, yes....worth it? Absolutely.

This book is an absolute must for those who want to experience the Romance of Paris, either with someone or on your own.

Simply beautiful

This is a must-have book for all lovers of Paris. Thirza Vallois (Around & About Paris) has excelled with this stunning guide to the charms of Paris--some famous, some lesser-known, all sensual and charming. Along with practical information, Ms. Vallois provides reviews of the most romantic places to shop, dine and sleep, plus tales of the city's famous lovers and detailed walks (because the best way to dicover Paris is definitely on foot!) Juliana Spear's photography captures this fabulous city at its best and will have you packing your bags so you can see it for yourself.
You don't need to go to Paris with a lover to enjoy this book although, with all the sensual treats described within, you're certainly going to want one :-)

Absolutely stunning!

I loved this book, not only for it's gorgeous photographs, informative text, clear maps, but for the welcome inclusion of poetry and selections from French writers that help illuminate the magic of this wonderful city. This is a must have guide for anyone who wants to be swept away to Paris! (It is also conveniently sized to fit neatly into a pocketbook.)

About the Author
Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, LD, is the manager of Wellness Nutrition Services at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute in Cleveland, Ohio, where she oversees nutrition-related services at the Center for Lifestyle Medicine. She is an award-winning dietitian (who in 2012 was named Dietetic Educator of the Year by the Ohio Dietetic Association) and a regular guest on local and national television shows, including The Dr. Oz Show, NBC Nightly News, and the TODAY Show, as well as NPR Radio. She received her B.A. from George Washington University, her master's degree (in health promotion management) from American University, and her dietetics training from the University of Akron.
Ibrahim Hanouneh, MD, completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic. He was chosen by the gastroenterology faculty to serve as Chief Fellow for his third year training at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Hanouneh currently works with Minnesota Gastroenterology, a Twin Cities-based gastroenterology practice (the largest gastroenterology practice in the nation), specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric digestive system and liver disorders. He continues to serve as an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Useful for the recovering damaged voice.

This book is great...I will say that, but it's a bit misleading. Before I purchased this I previewed a few pages on Amazon and it told me everything that I needed to know about what I was looking for...but overall this isn't exactly what I was looking for...especially not for $80. This book is more for people who have damaged their voice or people who have vocal disabilities and want to jump back into voice work. It's not for the singer who wants some tips on how to improve their voice which is who I am, but you can get some helpful information on how to relieve tension to have a much freer sound...that's really all I got from this book. I skipped about four or five chapters because they were just talking about vocal damage and how to bounce back from that. Maybe I will pick it up again and see if I can find anything in it that I possibly missed.

This book is fantastic, I am a voice therapist and it is an invaluable resource to me in my work with children and adults with voice disorders.It has reignited my interest in the area of voice work and I love the holistic approach that it promotes. The exercises are easily explained it is so practical. I am also using it to help me to explore and develop my own voice and this has been extremely beneficial for my hobby of acting. I would highly recommend this book .

This book is very valuable for anyone who works with the voice in any area. Using the voice when Presenting and Public Speaking is very important, and is the area I work in. This book is invaluable.

I read a review of this book by Pamela Parry in the British Voice Association Newsletter, and she summed it up really well
'A right gem that has been waiting in the wings tried to squeeze itself through my letterbox, Voice Work: Art and Science in Changing Voices by Christina Shewell. It's one of those big bendy books, 522 pages and what a veritable `pick'n'mix' Christina has given us. For me this is the Rolls Royce of books that has been purring away in the garage, and something that the author ought to be immensely proud of'.

As Patsy Rodenburg says in her foreword, Christina bridges the worlds between voice therapists and voice work teachers, and describes this as an "an important and unique book----a book that should be embraced by the voice world and owned by anyone working with the human voice".

If you are interested in voice in any form, then get hold of this book. Easy to read, packed with information, and it will leave you feeling good after reading it. I can't recommend it highly enough

Practical ways to put God first in everything

Some things seem so obvious, until it comes down to actually putting them into practice. Putting God first in everything we do is one of those things that should be obvious, but somehow, it doesn't always come across that way. In his latest book The God First Life: Uncomplicate Your Life, God's Way (Zondervan, 2014), Stovall Weems does an incredible job in offering tips to make things a lot less complicated than we usually see them as being.
Weems starts with a single, simple verse from the gospel of Matthew: Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matt 6:33, NIV). For such a simple verse, it certainly is powerful, so powerful that I wondered if Weems wasn’t oversimplifying things. But he’s not. The place we should start is with God, and the rest will fall in to place. Ask anyone who tried doing things their way first, and then turning to God as the last resort. Most of them will be glad to tell you that they got things backward, and as a result they paid the price.
A major premise of this book is that putting God first allows the Christ follower to reap the promises of God, a new family, a new life and, and a new freedom. I usually don’t like books which the author claims will give you anything, I read this book expecting to find the catch, to find the words which would seem to be adding something to the gospel of Jesus, but it just wasn’t there.
Another thing that pleased me about this book is that the author doesn't paint everything as coming up roses. He talks about servant hood, he talks about giving, yes, giving, as in tithing, as in ten percent to the local church, and he does so unapologetically. We read that sometimes Christians suffer, just like anyone else, but it’s better to suffer as a Christian than as a non-believer.
Well placed scripture references reinforce the whole concept of putting God first. He even includes a breakdown of the Lord’s Prayer to help people understand the purpose of each phrase.

Dare to redefine your life's order.

Pastor Stovall Weems explores the God-first Life. If you really seek His Kingdom first and trust that He will take care of the rest, your life will be transformed completely. Whether it's about your financial situation, understanding why church membership is important, and why discipline in reading God's word, listening to His voice are crucial to see miracles happen. The God-first life is not about strict rules or what you need to do or give up, but basically who needs to be #1 in your life. Elaborating the promise in Matthew 6 verse 33 Weems gives a fresh and practical perspective of what Christian discipleship is all about. The book's great for both young converts as well as seasoned believers that may have forgotten the very basics of a Christian's main priority. I rediscovered core truths that have been mystified and misunderstood by many Christians for years, thinking they did right and had church in a God-fashioned way. Dare to redefine your life's order.

WOW this book simplifies it all by teaching key principles that Pastor Stovall makes so easy to implement!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a BETTER life with far less strife and complication! The book teaches how to 'restore order' and goes on to show how when order is restored, blessing is released! It makes sense that when we see an 'out of order' sign on a piece of machinery, that means it is not working. The book does a superb job in showing how this same principle applies to our life; 'out of order' means our life is not working as well! There are also some amazing stories that Pastor Stovall shares, one in particular while he was in the Amazon jungle that was a death defying story but taught him so much. The story is amazing and you don't want to miss it! Again I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to live a better life by restoring order, God's Way!
