U.K. journalist Ronson offers a look into the world of political, cultural and religious "extremists" who dwell at the edges of popular culture and the conspiracy theorists who love them. His only criteria for groups' inclusion as extremists is "that they have been called extremists by others," which may explain why the Anti-Defamation League is profiled along with the modern-day KKK, radical Northern Ireland Protestant spokesperson Dr. Ian Paisley and a former BBC sportscaster who believes the world is ruled by a race of alien lizards. The best as well as most timely and unsettling of these essays follows Omar Bakri Mohammed, a radical Islamic militant, on his often bumbling effort to organize British Muslims into a jihad. (Bakri was arrested after September 11.) Ronson's journalism is motivated less out of a duty to inform the public than a desire to satisfy his own curiosity. At the heart of the book is Ronson's quest to find the Bilderberg Group, a secret cabal said to meet once a year to set the agenda of the "New World Order." Very interesting and informative

I am a junior in high school and for my english class we were asked to pick a nonfiction book to read. Our teacher said it could be anything we were interested in and immediately I thought about psychology, and more specifically psychopathy. I was instantly draw into this book because of my own fascination of the topic. The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson is a very interesting book that takes you through psychopathy and the mental illness “industry”. The book primarily focuses on different cases of violence or murder done by psychopaths. The author believes that psychopaths are living with us and are just pretending to be normal, because they are very good at acting like everyone else. He is relaying information to the audience about how psychopaths think and function and to also show others how you can use Bob Hare’s Psychopath Checklist to identify some. Ronson also explores the mental illnesses industry and specifically medication being prescribed to deal with mental illnesses and how medication can be misdiagnosed. The book does not just list a lot of facts and rely information to a point where is it hard to grasp, Ronson takes such a big topic like psychology and psychopathy and describes it in a way that is easy to understand. The book includes different case studies involving crimes done by psychopaths, interviews Ronson leads with potential psychopaths, and much more. There is not one moment in this book where I was bored, yet I was still able to grasp so much material. I think this book would be a really great read for other high school students and anyone older because it is an average book that is easy to read yet I was able to retain so much information from this book.

I have never said this before, but I wish this books was as long as War and Peace. Jon picks the the most interesting topics to write about and this piece on extremists written before 9/11 has to be his best. I have read several of the people he follows including Alex Jones and David Icke just because the culture of conspiracy fascinates me. I cannot tell if these folks have a mental illness with powerful fixed delusions or are genius money makers tapping into gullible paranoia. Good overall, could have explained some things a bit more

I'm quickly becoming a fan of Jon Ronson. This book was informative and humorous and left me with a desire to know a bit more about some of the topics he touched on in the book, which sent me down the wikipedia rabbit hole for a few days after reading it. It gets 4 stars because of that--there were a couple things that I thought Ronson could have addressed a bit more thoroughly, especially since he kept coming back to them time and again throughout the book. But overall it's an informative and entertaining read.

About the Author
Deborah McCormick is currently an associate clinical professor in the Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Human Services at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She received her BS in health and physical education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, her MS in health and physical education from Baylor University, and her PhD in health education from Texas A&M University. Dr. McCormick has also held faculty appointments at Lamar University, University of Texas at San Antonio, and Texas State University. She has delivered more than 50 professional presentations to local, state, and national audiences on topics related to health promotion. She is co-author of Essentials of Health and Wellness. James Robinson, III is currently professor and graduate coordinator in the Department of Public Health Sciences at New Mexico State University. He taught health education for nine years in the Downingtown Area School District, Downingtown, Pennsylvania. After his doctoral studies, Dr. Robinson held faculty appointments at California State University at Northridge, the University of Northern Colorado, Texas A&M University, and Texas A&M Health Science Center. His health education consultations include school districts in California, Colorado, Texas and Wyoming, as well as the state health and education departments in Colorado and Texas. Dr. Robinson is author or co-author of more than twenty five professional publications and has delivered more than seventy five professional presentations to local, state, and national audiences. He is lead author of ESSENTIALS OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS, a health textbook for high school students, and is currently the Executive Editor of the Journal of Drug Education. Dr. Robinson has served on numerous committees and boards of the American Association for Health Education and the American School Health Association. The American Association for Health Education honored him with Fellow status in 1999 and with the association's Professional Service Award in 2003. In addition to his teaching, scholarly activity, and service, Dr. Robinson has generated approximately two and half million dollars in grant support for his research and health promotion projects. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education and his Masters Degree in Education in Health Education from West Chester University. He received his Doctorate Degree in Health Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

The Life of SSGT Bill Bordelon, USMC: humble man, extraordinary heroism

It's difficult to write of men from ordinary backgrounds who are called upon in dire circumstances to rise and succeed against all odds. SSGT Bill Bordelon USMC gave his life to save his fellow Marines on Tarawa, November 20th, 1943 and was subsequently awarded the Medal of Honor. So often the voyage through life that leads up to the courageous acts is minimized or missed. Here, Mr. Pricer details how the character of Bill Bordelon was forged in his family background in San Antonio, a family that honors him to this day but misses him terribly. When his surviving sister was interviewed by a local newspaper, she grieved over what a terrible loss this was to the entire Bordelon family, as he was their leader and there was so much he could have accomplished after the war. That he was ultimately brought home to San Antonio, lay in state at the Alamo, and was reinterred in the Fort Sam Houston VA Cemetery through the efforts of his brother and an unlikely coalition of inspired citizenry and military leaders is a fitting conclusion to a saga about a native son. Ordinary man, extraordinary heroism and ultimate sacrifice; a true Marine who is now honored with a column in the San Antonio's Medal of Honor River Portal dedicated July 3rd, 2014. Thank you, Mr. Pricer, for telling us the full story of a humble, great man.

I bought several for my brothers and a good friend, all CCSH graduates

As a native of San Antonio and an alumnus of Central Catholic High School, I found this book enlightening and inspiring. SSgt. Bordelon 's brother was a well-respected teacher and coach at CCHS. We all knew that Ssgt Bordelon was a hero, but I never knew the depth of his patriotsm , loyalty and courage until I read this book. I thank Coach Bordelon's family, whom I had the privilege of meeting at the National Museum of the Pacific War, for telling me about the book. I bought several for my brothers and a good friend, all CCSH graduates. This is a story of love of God, love of Family and love Country. I recommend it to anyone who still gets chills down their spine when hearing the National Anthem and tears when hearing a lone bugler sound Taps. God bless our WWII veterans and their families.

Fast paced story. Just like the movie (of course with a few exceptions) and a remarkable way of story telling. I personally don't beleive in the Ouija superstition but of course stories like this are always fun to witness.
